Great podium at Longines Global Champions Tour of Shanghai
Dutch Harrie Smolders and his super fast 15-year-old bay mare Regina Z won saturday 9 May the Longines Global Champions Tour of Shanghai.
This is for Smolders his first ever Grand Prix victory; he was faster than Pius Schwizer and Michael Whitaker, second and third. The first round of Grand Prix by course designer Uliano Vezzani saw 13 clear rounds with John Whitaker and Luca Moneta both missing out with 1 time penalty. Only the three fastest on four faults were able to squeeze into the second round with Daniel Deusser, Ludger Beerbaum, Steve Guerdat and Kent Farrington among the casualties. In the second round Pius Schwizer and his mount Caretina de Joter proved an impressive combination with a double clear and young Jessica Mendoza on Spirit also pulled off a double clear. Double clear also for Taizo Sugitani and his Avenzio 3 and Pieter Devos and Candy. Scott Brash shows his great form with double clear on Hello M’Lady along with fellow Brit Michael Whitaker on the trusty Viking and Kamal Bahamdan on Noblesse des Tess. Eight riders won through to the jump off. Four faults for Pieter Devos while the other seven riders all delivered triple clears. Harrie Smolders stopped the clock at 33.57. Pius Schwizer at 34.20 and Michael Whitaker at 34.99. Great Britain’s Scott Brash remains on top of the ranking stretching his lead to 10 points ahead of Luciana Diniz.
