Sweden’s Henrick Von Eckermann conquers the Grand Prix at CSIO Rome, Italy
Henrik von Eckermann became only the second Swedish rider to claim the City of Rome Grand Prix title
The Swedish rider came out on top with the 13-year-old gelding, Cantinero, at CSIO Rome - fratelli d’Inzeo Masters - at Piazza di Siena on Sunday 24 May. Once again, course designer Uliano Vezzani kept the riders thinking, with first-round clears very difficult to get. Only four pairs completed the first round on a zero score, Robert Whitaker with Catwalk IV, Henrick Von Eckermann with Cantinero, Laura Kraut with Cedric and Edwina Tops-Alexander with . The second-round line-up included five riders carrying just a single time-penalty, and the fastest four-faulters. At the end, von Eckermann with Cantinero giving an exhibition of classic jumping, went out in front with the clock showing 48.67. Second place for the World Champion couple Jeroen Dubbledam and Zenith and third for the World Champion by Team couple Maikel van der Vleuten and Arera C. Very good performance of italian lady rider Giulia Martinengo Marquet and Funke Van’T Heike, who completed the first round with four faults and with clear round in the second round and finished their Grand Prix Rome at fifth place.
