On September 7, 2024, Jessica Mendoza from Great Britain clinched victory in the $250,000 Core Specialty Insurance CSI4* 1.55m Grand Prix during HITS Championship week at HITS Hudson Valley. This exciting finale drew riders from ten nations to Saugerties, New York.
The course, designed by Olaf Peterson Jr. (GER), was tough, featuring a triple combination and a challenging triple bar oxer. Out of 26 competitors, Mendoza was one of only three to complete the first round without faults.
As the final rider in the jump-off, Mendoza had a strategic advantage. She executed a brilliant round, finishing in a time that was over a second faster than the leading score set by her competitors, Abdel Said (BEL) and Samuel Hutton (GBR).
“I was in the best position because I saw everyone go before me,” Mendoza explained. “I-Cap CL Z is quick on his feet, so I made up time in the turns and played it safe to the last fence.”
Mendoza’s 12-year-old Zangersheide gelding, I-Cap CL Z (I’m Special de Muze x Air Jordan), showcased their strong partnership. Mendoza has had him since he was four, and their deep bond was evident in their performance.
“He’s my pride and joy,” Mendoza said. “I know him inside and out. He’s like my best friend, always giving his all.”
Abdel Said finished second with a double-clear round in 40.92 seconds on his mare, Bonne Amie (A Big Boy x Landfriese). Said acknowledged Mendoza’s excellent timing and strategy.
Congratulations to Jessica Mendoza on her impressive win. We look forward to more of her stellar performances!
