The Horse: Sam
German pair Michel Jung and Sam is writing the history of equestrian sports.
Sam is actually the best eventing horse in the World. He has a unbeliavable carrier obtained under the saddle of the German Michael Jung, 35-year-old, currently the World’s most successful rider and FEI Eventing Ranking Numer 1, who rode Sam from the beginning. Michael Jung and Sam won an unbeliavable numer of CCI4*, such as Badminton, Burghley and Luhmuhlen… an then Nations Cup and a very very long list of medals. It is impossible to do the list of the victories of the German stellar horse and his rider…. .
We can start from 2007 when they took the second place in the seven-year-old World Young Horse Championship at Le Lions D’Angers. That was the beginning…
Sam’s official name is La Biosthetique Sam FBW. Owned by Family Jung, Erich Single & DOKR, Sam is a Baden-Württemberg born in 2000, gelding bay. Bred by Gunter Seitter, his sire Stan the Man xx was an Irish Thoroughbred that was purchased by the Principle and State Stud Marbach in 1993. Before Sam, Stan the Man had already sired another international eventing horse by the name of Scampolo who competed on the Russian team. Notable, Scampolo’s dam was the mother of Sam’s dam, owned by Günter Seitter who is also Sam’s breeder. As Stan the Man xx died in 2000, the fame of his offspring came a little bit too late. When bred to Thoroughbred- type mares, he has produced horses with a great attitude and talent.
The dam sire Heraldik xx was owned by the Birkhof, the largest private sport horse stud in Baden-Württemberg. Sam’s dam Halla was by the Hanoverian Godehard, but she is registered as a Baden-Württemberg mare. Sam was Halla’s first foal when she was four years old.
Sam’s beginning in sport was anything but successful. He had been selected to participate in the stallion licensing at Marbach in the fall of 2002 as a 2-year-old, but the licensing commission rejected him thinking that he had no quality.
So his breeder Günter Seitter decided to enter him into the sport horse auction that followed the licensing. Young Sam was the last horse to enter the sale ring, and most of the people at the auction had already left because nobody was really interested in him. Ultimately a young woman by the purchased him for the reserve price of $10,000. His breeder, who still believed in Sam, recommended Michael Jung as a trainer for her new young prospect. This was the moment when the tables turned for Sam and this was the moment of the eventing history changed…
Sam actually is Olympic Champion and Silver medal by team, Rio 20016. He won the Olympic title two times in a row as he won individual and team Gold medal at London 2012.
Gold individual medal at World Equestrian Games Lexington 2010. Winner of FEI World Cup Final CIC3* in Deuville 2008 and Strzegom 2009. Bronze medal at European Championships in Fontainebleau 2009 and individual and team Gold Medal in Luhmuhlen 2011. And still a long series of victories…
